Neurofeedback of Fronto-Parietal Gamma-Oscillations

چکیده

In recent work, we have provided evidence that fronto-parietal γ-range oscillations are a cause of within-subject performance variations in brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) based on motor-imagery. Here, we explore the feasibility of using neurofeedback of fronto-parietal γpower to induce a mental state that is beneficial for BCI-performance. We provide empirical evidence based on two healthy subjects that intentional attenuation of fronto-parietal γpower results in an enhanced resting-state sensorimotor-rhythm (SMR). As a large restingstate amplitude of the SMR has been shown to correlate with good BCI-performance, our approach may provide a means to reduce performance variations in BCIs.

Improvement of Working Memory Performance by Parietal Upper Alpha Neurofeedback Training

Working memory (WM) is a part of human memory, the ability to maintain and manipulate information. WM performance is impaired in some neurological and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and ADHD. Neurofeedback training is a self-regulation method which can be used to improve WM performance by changing related EEG parameters. In this paper we used neurofeedback training to improve WM pe...

Optimized Gamma Synchronization Enhances Functional Binding of Fronto-Parietal Cortices in Mathematically Gifted Adolescents during Deductive Reasoning

As enhanced fronto-parietal network has been suggested to support reasoning ability of math-gifted adolescents, the main goal of this EEG source analysis is to investigate the temporal binding of the gamma-band (30-60 Hz) synchronization between frontal and parietal cortices in adolescents with exceptional mathematical ability, including the functional connectivity of gamma neurocognitive netwo...

High Gamma-power Predicts Performance in Brain-computer Interfacing

Subjects operating a brain-computer interface (BCI) based on sensorimotor rhythms exhibit large variations in performance over the course of an experimental session. Here, we show that high-frequency γ-oscillations, originating in fronto-parietal networks, predict such variations on a trial-to-trial basis. We interpret this finding as empirical support for an influence of attentional networks o...

Increased long distance event-related gamma band connectivity in Alzheimer's disease

BACKGROUND Brain oscillatory responses can be used for non-invasive analyses of cortico-cortical connectivity, local neuronal synchronization, and coherence of oscillations in many neuropsychiatric conditions including Alzheimer's disease (AD). In the present paper, we examine sensory-evoked and event-related gamma coherences elicited by visual stimuli in three sub-gamma bands in two sub-groups...

Functional frontoparietal connectivity during encoding and retrieval processes follows HERA model. A high-resolution study.

Recent neuroimaging studies of long-term episodic memory have suggested that left prefrontal cortex predominates in encoding condition, whereas right prefrontal cortex predominates in retrieval condition (hemispheric encoding and retrieval asymmetry, HERA model). The present electroencephalographic (EEG) study investigated the functional coupling of fronto-parietal regions during long-term memo...
